Free things to do!

OK, so nothing is completely free, however here’s a few activities that cost relatively little and can provide loads of fun and entertainment for the whole family.

Toadstool picnic table - Marton ParkPack a picnic lunch and find a park to venture into, or take your photo with the iconic image in each town.  The main towns have parks and recreational areas open to all.  There are great river access points throughout the district offering swimming and other water activities, beach access is at Scott's Ferry and Turakina.

Throughout Rangitikei you can find Department of Conservation Reserves and Walks just minutes from the State Highways and our main towns.  Put your walking shoes on and discover the peace and tranquility, the wonder of New Zealand’s natural environment.

If you’re a keen cyclist, fat or thin tyres, check out www.gorgestosea.co.nz for some challenging rides through the Rangitikei rewarding riders with magnificent scenery along the way!  These cycle trails are set along country roads making them excellent choices for a driving exploration.  Pick up a Rangitikei Visitors Map and plan your adventure today.

The great outdoors isn't on your agenda? Then discover the wonder of Rangitikei's heritage in our museums and historical homes and the beautiful gardens, public and private, nestled throughout the DIstrict or spend some time in inspiring art galleries.

Iconic and local events are scheduled throughout the year across the Rangitikei.  Most are free, some may require a koha or donation to enter, a few have a set entry fee.  You’ll find more details on our Rangitikei Events page or Community Calendar.

For all the details on things to see and do in the Rangitikei visit an Information Centre – you’ll find one in Bulls, Marton, Mangaweka and Taihape.

Whatever you choose to do in our amazing District, stay safe and most of all enjoy!
